DANIEL ORTEGA
Group leader
Daniel received his MSc (2003) and PhD (2007) at the University of Cádiz supervised by Manuel Domínguez and Milagrosa Ramírez, undertaking his first postdoctoral position at the University of the Basque Country in 2008 working with José S. Garitaonandia and Fernando Plazaola. Starting in 2009, he joined The Royal Institution of Great Britain and University College London to work with Quentin Pankhurst, first as an Intraeuropean Marie Curie postdoctoral fellow and thereafter as a research associate. He was appointed to the Toyohashi University of Technology in 2013 as research associate to Adarsh Sandhu’s lab. Since late 2013 he joined IMDEA Nanoscience through a Marie Curie action, and was appointed by the European Commission as evaluator. A year later, he was elected to EPSRC's Peer Review College, and joined the RSC's Chemical Nanoscience and Nanotechnology committee the same year. Daniel currently belongs to the CNB-IMDEA Nanoscience Associated Unit.

IRENE RUBIA
PhD student
Irene finished the Nursery degree in 2011 at Universidad Francisco de Vitoria. A year after, she started the Biomedical Engineering degree at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid but left it in standby in 2015 to access the MSc in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Biomedicine at Universidad Complutense de Madrid. During those years she completed her expertise in Genetic Medicine given by Universitat de València. She was granted a scholarship by Exina program to study her MSc which concluded in 2016 with a thesis in bioinformatics, developing algorithms to analyse proteomics results in clinical samples. She joined IMDEA Nanociencia in 2017 as a PhD Student in Biomolecular Science under the supervision of Dr. Daniel Ortega. Her research is currently focused on the development of a software platform to perform in silico trials on magnetic hyperthermia.
